(1903-1931) While a contemporary of Armstrong, Beiderbecke's approach was unique and distinctive. Bix possessed a beautiful tone and his improvisations were harmonically adventurous. He recorded extensively during the twenties with the Wolverines, Jean Goldkette and Paul Whiteman in a variety of settings. Bix's finest recordings were with saxophonist Frankie Trumbauer (Listen: Singin' the Blues).
